Archer Aviation (ACHR) is doubling down on its defense ambitions with two strategic acquisitions aimed at fast-tracking its next-generation military aircraft programs. The company is capitalizing on growing global demand and a newly announced $13.4 billion Pentagon budget request for autonomous military systems.

The first acquisition includes a key patent portfolio and select talent from Overair, a spin-off of Karem Aircraft known for its expertise in tiltrotor and hybrid aircraft design. This move is expected to strengthen Archer’s engineering foundation as it develops hybrid, autonomous VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft for defense applications.

The second acquisition gives Archer ownership of composite manufacturing equipment and a 60,000-square-foot production facility in Huntington Beach, California. These assets, previously held by Mission Critical Composites, will allow Archer to bring composite fabrication in-house, streamlining prototyping and accelerating development cycles for defense-grade aircraft.

These acquisitions come just months after Archer entered into a co-development partnership with defense technology company Anduril and raised $1.3 billion in capital to pursue commercial and military opportunities.
