Planet Labs PBC (PL) has added two more high-resolution satellites to orbit, with Pelican-3 and Pelican-4 successfully launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base. The satellites have already established contact with Planet’s ground team, which has begun the commissioning process.

These latest spacecraft join Pelican-1 and Pelican-2 as part of Planet’s next-generation tasking fleet. The company plans additional Pelican launches later this year as it scales capabilities for commercial, government, and defense users.

The new satellites deliver 40 cm-class resolution imagery across six multispectral bands, designed for advanced analysis and cross-sensor comparisons. In partnership with NVIDIA, the satellites are also equipped with Jetson AI platforms, enabling on-orbit data processing and faster delivery of insights to customers.

Planet operates the world’s largest Earth observation fleet and provides daily global imagery for sectors ranging from agriculture and forestry to finance and national security.
