VergeIO, the Ultraconverged Infrastructure leader, has announced that Topgolf, the global sports entertainment powerhouse, has chosen VergeOS to modernize its IT infrastructure across all offices, core data centers, and over 100 venue edge data centers. This decision follows an extensive evaluation process prompted by rising costs and complexities associated with VMware’s licensing model under Broadcom ownership.
Topgolf, a subsidiary of Topgolf Callaway Brands (MODG), operates high-tech venues worldwide, including locations in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Known for its innovative blend of physical and digital golf experiences, Topgolf venues feature RFID-enabled golf balls, real-time shot tracking via Toptracer technology, and advanced analytics for extended reality games and performance insights. These venues also serve as social hubs, offering climate-controlled hitting bays, full-service bars, dining, and private event spaces.
By transitioning from a VMware deployment on Dell VxRail to VergeOS’ streamlined three-node architecture per site, Topgolf is achieving greater efficiency and eliminating the need for third-party backup software and hardware. VergeOS’ built-in data protection tools—ioClone, ioGuardian, and ioReplicate—have proven to be robust alternatives.
“Technology is at the core of our player experience and how we deliver value,” said Scott Forehand, Manager of Global Infrastructure at Topgolf. “VergeOS provides the control, flexibility, and resilience we need at every venue. VergeIO has proven to be a partner that truly understands our operations and helps us move quickly.”
Topgolf is leveraging VergeOS Site Manager and Virtual Data Centers (VDCs) to oversee its entire IT environment, from venues to data centers. This architecture enables tenant-level isolation, real-time observability, and seamless upgrades across time zones without disrupting venue operations. VergeOS’ API-first design has also allowed Topgolf to automate critical infrastructure tasks, such as deployment, maintenance, and power-loss recovery, reducing manual effort from 30–45 minutes per site to near-zero.
“This is exactly why we built VergeOS,” said Greg Campbell, Founder and CTO of VergeIO. “Managing hundreds of locations with real-time workloads and high uptime demands requires more than legacy IT stacks. VergeOS delivers a unified, automated, and resilient platform from core to edge—without compromise.”
By consolidating hypervisor, storage, networking, data protection, and management into a single platform, VergeOS is enabling Topgolf to significantly reduce infrastructure costs. The move to VergeOS is expected to deliver substantial annual savings while enhancing operational agility and preparing Topgolf for future AI-driven innovations with VergeIQ.
