Where Chip Charts Stand After Today's Slide, and What Their Latest Earnings Reports Said

PR Newswire

NEW YORK, Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Stock Preachers News Commentary - The PHLX Semiconductor Index (SOX) was down 8.92% at 9,352.46 as of 10:39 a.m. ET on Thursday, after closing at 10,268.65 on Wednesday, a sharp one-day move that left the index below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Stepping back from the intraday screen, the same index stood 32.0% above its 2025 year-end close of 7,083.13, based on daily closing prices, and the five companies covered here have all reported their latest quarters within the past 10 days, with guidance for the current quarter on the table. Active Companies from around the markets with current developments this week include: KLA Corporation (NASDAQ: KLAC), Teradyne, Inc. (NASDAQ: TER), Entegris, Inc. Where the index sits on the chart

As of 10:39 a.m. ET, the SOX was trading below its 50-day simple moving average of 11,796.50 and its 200-day simple moving average of 10,819.59, both computed from daily closing prices through Wednesday.

The longer view adds perspective. The index's last close at or below this morning's level came on April 16, 2026, at 9,329.35, so the decline took the SOX back to levels it traded at in the spring rather than to new lows. Measured against a year ago, the index was up 30.1% from its Nov. 5, 2025 close of 7,190.27. It was also 36.1% below its highest close of the past year, 14,634.72 on June 22, 2026, a reminder that the group had already been working off its summer peak before today.

Sharp single sessions are not new for this index. Based on daily closing prices since the start of 1997, the SOX had closed down 9% or more in a single session 12 times through Wednesday, most recently on June 5, 2026, when it fell 10.26%. In that instance, the index closed back above its June 4 level on June 15 and posted its highest close of the past year one week later, on June 22. In April 2025, back-to-back declines of 9.88% and 7.60% on April 3 and April 4 were followed by a close above the April 2 level on May 2, 2025. Those are past episodes, and they do not indicate what the index will do next.

Dave Reeder, Entegris' President and Chief Executive Officer, said: "Entegris is executing well against an attractive long-term opportunity, driven by increasing semiconductor complexity, rising materials intensity, and investment in leading-edge technologies."

Two chipmakers, two different chart pictures

The stock remained above its lowest close of the past year, $124.07 on April 7, 2026, and its last close at or below today's level was Aug. 3, 2026.

Qualcomm reported fiscal 2026 results on Nov. 4. Fiscal 2026 GAAP revenues were $43.1 billion, and fourth-quarter GAAP revenues of $10,322 million were 8% lower than a year earlier, while QCT automotive revenues rose 89% year over year to a record. The company guided first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenues of $10.4 billion to $11.2 billion and returned $11,671 million to stockholders through repurchases and dividends during fiscal 2026. Rafael Sotomayor, NXP President and Chief Executive Officer, said: "NXP delivered third-quarter revenue of $3.8 billion, up 19 percent year-on-year and 8 percent sequentially. Our performance was driven by accelerating contributions from our company-specific growth drivers in automotive and industrial as well as continued momentum in data center infrastructure."

Price and business on different clocks

The charts show a sector that moved sharply lower in a single morning and now sits below its key moving averages, while the year-to-date figures for the index and for four of these five stocks remain positive. The quarterly reports, all released within the past 10 days, describe revenue, guidance and capital returns in the companies' own words.
